The eligibility rule for closed championships has been updated to reflect changes that include closed provincial championships and selection meets. Please read below for more information.
IMPORTANT QUALIFYING RULE CHANGE FOR THE
At the SOBHD meeting this weekend the Board informed ScotDance Canada the closed championship rules as outlined in the Constitution and Rules January 2016 must apply to all closed championships including those used for selection to the Canadian Championship. SOBHD rules always supersede any SDC rules unless we have been granted special dispensation from the Board.
Therefore, effective immediately, a dancer may compete for a 2016 Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition determined by birth or having been a resident for 6 (six) months prior to the Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition.
Based on this, should a dancer qualify for 2 (two) Closed Provincial Championships and/or Selection Competitions, one by birth and one by residency, that dancer may only compete in 1 (one) Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition in that calendar year.
Dancers born outside of Canada may only qualify by residency to compete in Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition. For dancers under the age of 18 years, the residence of their legal guardian will determine residency.
Any dancer who qualifies by both birth and residency and has already entered a Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition, may revoke that entry with a full refund and enter the other Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition they qualify for.
If a dancer decides to enter the other Closed Provincial Championship or Selection Competition they qualify for, all rules on the entry form must be adhered to i.e. closing date, provincial funding, etc.
The name of the Organizer of each Closed Provincial Championship and Selection Competition is on the SDC web site. Please contact the Organizer for entry form information.
